Board Guide & Care Instructions
Board Guide & Care Instructions
At Half a Chance Creations, every board is handcrafted with attention to detail, highlighting the natural beauty and unique character of the wood.
Understanding the difference between our cutting boards and serving boards will help you choose the right piece and care for it properly for years to come.
Understanding Our Boards
Face-Grain Cutting Boards — Everyday Use
Face-grain cutting boards showcase the natural grain patterns of the wood and are intended for everyday, light-to-medium cutting tasks.
They are a beautiful and functional choice for routine food preparation.
End-Grain Cutting Boards — Chopping Boards
End-grain cutting boards are designed for chopping and more demanding cutting tasks.
Their construction exposes the ends of the wood fibers, creating a durable cutting surface suited for regular kitchen use.
Serving & Display Boards — Presentation Only
Our handcrafted serving boards, charcuterie boards, and decorative serving trays are designed for presenting and displaying food.
They're ideal for creating beautiful presentations with cheeses, crackers, fruit, appetizers, and other treats.
Serving and display boards are not intended for cutting or chopping. Do not use knives on these surfaces.
This distinction also applies to serving pieces featuring decorative epoxy accents.
Our Food-Safe Finishes
Every board is carefully hand-finished using food-safe finishing products.
Depending on the piece, we use:
-
Fractionated coconut oil and board butter
-
Odie's finishing products
We do not use separate finishing standards for our serving boards and cutting boards. Each receives a carefully selected, food-safe finish.
Because every piece is handcrafted from natural wood, variations in grain, color, and character are part of what makes each creation unique.
Cleaning & Care Instructions
To help maintain your board's beauty and condition, please follow these instructions:
-
Hand wash only. Never place your board in the dishwasher.
-
Wash both sides. Clean both surfaces when washing.
-
Dry and store on its edge. Allow your board to dry thoroughly before storing.
-
Store in a dry place. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.
-
Condition as needed. When the wood appears dry, or approximately every few months, condition it using a food-safe oil or board butter.
These care instructions apply to our handcrafted wooden boards, including pieces with epoxy details.
Made with Care. Designed to Last.
With proper use and maintenance, your handcrafted piece can be enjoyed for years to come.
